Iolite/Cordierite

The Stone of Transformation

Water Sapphire

Limited Edition, Spalunked, LLC home tumbled for weeks, Iolite aka Cordierite. Hailing all the way from India! 🇮🇳 We have just a few available and so much love and attention has been put into these amazing stones. You will love it once you hold it. It looks like blue quartz and is a 7-7.5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Pretty hard-a lot harder than flourite or calcite 🙂 First discovered in Nijar, Almería, Spain in 1813 by an adventurous, geologically inclined lad, named Louis Cordier, of France.

Synthetic cordierite is used to strengthen the ceramics of a catalytic converter:

“The manufacturing process deliberately aligns the cordierite crystals to make use of the very low thermal expansion along one axis. This prevents thermal shock cracking from taking place when the catalytic converter is used.”

The crystal is aligned to make use of the low thermal expansion along an axis…this gives us a clue to why the energy of crystals/mineral formations is valid and important!

“The name "iolite" comes from the Greek word for violet. Another old name is dichroite, a Greek word meaning "two-colored rock", a reference to cordierite's strong pleochroism. It has also been called "water-sapphire" and "Vikings' Compass" because of its usefulness in determining the direction of the sun on overcast days, the Vikings having used it for this purpose. This works by determining the direction of polarization of the sky overhead. Light scattered by air molecules is polarized, and the direction of the polarization is at right angles to a line to the sun, even when the sun's disk itself is obscured by dense fog or lies just below the horizon.” FASCINATING!!

Onto the metaphysics of this beautiful, transparent, blue stone:

Iolite metaphysical beliefs suggest the gemstone can guide the lost home as well as the ability to open spiritual pathways that connect the living with the dead. Iolite has been used by shamans to enhance their ability to have clear visions. Some legends even say iolite strengthens eyesight.

Iolite is a vision stone. It activates the third eye and facilitates visualisation and intuitive insight. When all the chakras are in alignment it will stimulate a connection to the inner knowing. It is a shaman stone that is used in ceremonies and used to safely have out of body experiences.

Use and wear this stone if you find the same patterns repeating itself in your life. If you are trying to find your way mentally, spiritual physically spiritually. Do you want to embrace your inner genius, use iolite to help your mind find the correct direction in life.
